NEW ANNO BIBB
Americ Hardcore. Dir. Paul Rachman. AHC Productions LLC, 2006. DVD.
-Traces the birth and growth or hardcore and straightedge in some serious detail. Talks about major influential bands and people in the movement.
Boston Beatdown. Dir. Elgin James. 1998. DVD
-Really shows the minority in the hardcore scene. Most kids aren’t violent or active in a gang. Just like vol 2 it has heavy hitting examples but not the most typical.
Boston Beatdown, Vol. 2. Perf. Blood for Blood, Death Before Dishonor. Crosscheck Records, 2004. DVD.
-Shows crazy violence at shows and after shows. Maybe that’s what hardcore and straight edge is like in Boston, but I don’t believe it’s like that everywhere. Definitely heavy hitting examples but maybe not the most fair or true to life.
Blush, Steven. “American Hardcore; A Tribal History.” Feral House. 2001
-I’m not sure if this book is related to the movie at all, but they both do basically the same thing and set up a really detailed history of how hardcore, and by extension, straight edge were created.
Haenfler, Ross. “Straight Edge: Hardcore Punk, Clean Living Youth, and Social Change” Rutgers University Press. 2006.
-Writen by a sociologist. One of the few books to deeply examine the straight edge movement. LOOKS AT CONTRADICTIONS.
Wood, Robert T. “Straightedge Youth: Complexity And Contradictions of a Subculture.” Syracuse University Press. 2006.
-Explains in great detail what exactly straight edge is, and how straight edge effects different parts of edgers lives.

Ray M., Merrill, Chrostopherson Susan S., and Folsom Jeffery A. “THE INFLUENCE OF FAMILY RELIGIOSITY ON ADOLESCENT SUBSTANCE USE ACCORDING TO RELIGIOUS PREFERENCE.” Social Behavior & Personality: An International Journal 38.8 (2005): 821-35
. -Examines how the religious affiliations that a kid learns from his or her parents effect whether or not the kid drinks. Will be handy when looking at what different things influence a kid claiming sxe.
James Herbert, Williams, Von Dorn A. Richard, Ayers D. Charles, Bright L. Charlotte, Abbot D. Robert, and Hawkins J. David. “Understanding Race and Gender Differences in Delinquent Acts and Alcohol and Marijuana Use: A Developmental Analysis of Initiation.” Social Work Research 31.2 (2007): 71-81.

John, Galliher F. “Straightedge Youth: Complexity and Contradictions of a Subculture.” Contemporary Sociology 36.5 (2007): 485-86.
-Really, really short. Like 1 page. Book review of Robert T. Wood’s book which just quickly points out the main themes and could be a useful reference as opposed to searching through the entire book.
